On Pentecost we commemorate the descent of the Holy Ghost upon the Blessed Virgin Mary and the disciples in the cenacle of the Last Supper fifty days following Christ’s resurrection from the dead. The name Pentecost comes from the Greek word for fiftieth and the first Pentecost fell on the anniversary of the Jewish Feast of Pentecost that recalled when Moses received the Ten Commandments.
