The Left is attacking the new speaker of the House for advocating in favor of anti-porn software and keeping his family safe.
Liberals continued their assaults on Mike Johnson, R-La., after a 2022 video recently resurfaced of him speaking at a Baptist church about the accountability software Covenant Eyes.
The video clip was posted on X by an account named Receipt Maven with the comment:

Johnson explained to listeners what Covenant Eyes is and why it is useful to the listeners at Benton, Louisiana’s Cypress Baptist Church during a discussion on the “War on Technology.”
The app works, Johnson said, because
It scans all the activity on your phone or your devices, your laptop, what have you; we do all of it. It sends a report to your accountability partner. My accountability partner right now is Jack, my son. He’s 17. So he and I get a report about all the things that are on our phones, all of our devices, once a week. If anything objectionable comes up, your accountability partner gets an immediate notice.
“I’m proud to tell you, my son has got a clean slate,” Johnson boasted.
Leftists Troubled
Among others, Rolling Stone published a Sunday story on Johnson with the headline, “Mike Johnson Admits He and His Son Monitor Each Other’s Porn Intake in Resurfaced Video.”
The story noted, “Outside of the creepy Big Brother-ness of it all, Receipt Maven also aired concerns about whether Covenant Eyes — which is still a working subscription-based service — might ‘compromise’ Johnson’s devices, if he’s still actively seeking accountability.”
Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel made jokes about Johnson on Monday night’s show, saying Johnson and his son “monitor each other’s porn intake.” Kimmel proclaimed it’s possible “to be too close with your children.”
“Very, very strange to ask your son to be your porn accountability partner,” Kimmel declared.
The leftist late-night host even offered to be Johnson’s “porn accountability partner” if the speaker has “no one else in his life to do this with.”

Many Marxists online took up the talking point of it being “creepy” for the father and son to receive website-viewing reports on each other. None of these took similar offense at the Left’s need to provide pornographic materials to children through schools and libraries, but they did muster outrage over those seeking to protect their kids from drag queens.
Pro-LGBTQ+ books for kids
Would these leftists think more highly of Johnson if he were providing his son with explicit gay material or bringing him to a drag show, rather than setting a good example for his son and helping them both avoid seeing erotic content on the internet so as to live as good Christians?
The Left seems to display moral relativity — particularly surrounding all things sexual — unless, of course, the sexuality is healthy enough for leftists to take offense.
The Receipt Maven account further posted on X about Johnson: “A US Congressman is allowing a 3rd Party tech company to scan ALL of his electronic devices daily and then uploading reports to his son about what he’s watching or not watching … I mean, who else is accessing that data?”
Yet the Left also has a history of silence when it comes to online national security risks. Chinese data-collecting apps like TikTok are supported by liberals, but a Christian service like Covenant Eyes seems to be too encroaching. And don’t even mention the Hillary Clinton email scandal that Marxists did not seem to mind.
Effective Prevention
Covenant Eyes proclaims on its website, “Porn is a human problem; we provide a human solution. Covenant Eyes helps you and the ones you love live porn-free through transformative accountability relationships.” The app provides screen monitoring and web page-blocking solutions for those who wish to quit or avoid pornography and other lewd online materials.
Speaker Johnson did not say that he or his son had problems looking at pornography.
Johnson describes himself as a “Bible-believing Christian” and has been attacked numerous times since becoming speaker for his Christian views.
